A couple of thoughts some might find interesting. First of all, it appears that the knuckle had a crack - look at the dark edges at the separation surface - prior to complete failure. Along with absense of impact or collision, it raises some questions. The second thought is frightening as well: imagine for a second that a major - or even minor accident - occured as a result of this or similar failure. Who would be able to determine the original cause - a failed part or a driver's error? Relatives of those in the vehicle are not qualified to come to a conclusion and/or do not possess resources to pursue the issue in court. Needless to say, consequences are not likely to be rectified regardless of outcome...
And the last question: how many accidents with tragic outcome take place on the roads every year while nobody can prove or even suspect the real cause?
